Interviews

Mental Health Ireland conduct competency-based interviews. This means that all candidates shortlisted for interview are asked the same questions that are designed to evaluate the essential skills outlined in the specific job description and advertisement. Competency based interviewing ensures that unconscious bias is minimised in the interview process. Candidates are encouraged to read the essential skills criteria section of the job description prior to interviewing.

For the majority of roles, interviews are conducted by a panel of 3 interviewers. The relative line manager will chair the panel, a second Mental Health Ireland employee of suitable grade occupies the second seat and a guest interviewer from a partnership programme, or funding partnership occupies the third seat. All on the interview panel will have agreed the candidates brought forward for interview through a prior application shortlisting process which also uses a competency-based scoring matrix to ensure fair process has been applied for all applicants.
